Identity verification via Persona

Adding a verification to your LinkedIn profile is not mandatory.

Name matching: The name on your government-issued ID (e.g., passport) must match the name on your LinkedIn profile. If you have a LinkedIn profile in another language, the name on your ID must also match that profile. Verification won’t be added if the names don’t match.

Devices: You can complete the verification via the LinkedIn mobile app (iOS and Android), but it’s not available on web browsers. If you try on a browser, you’ll receive a QR code to scan with your mobile device.

Camera access: If the LinkedIn app doesn’t already have permission to use your camera, your mobile device will prompt you to enable it. This is necessary for the ID verification process. Afterward, you’ll be asked by Persona to take a photo of your ID (e.g., passport). For region-specific information, check here. LinkedIn stores data in U.S. data centers.

Data collection and sharing: Persona handles the personal data needed to verify your identity (including an image of your ID and a selfie), but LinkedIn will provide Persona with a hashed version of your LinkedIn Member ID to link the verification to your account. Persona shares the following with LinkedIn, with your consent:

  • Your name (as it appears on your ID)
  • The type of ID (e.g., passport)
  • The issuer of your ID
  • A unique identifier (UID) generated during the process
  • Your LinkedIn RequestID

LinkedIn uses this data for security purposes, such as preventing fraud, in line with its Privacy Policy. LinkedIn won’t receive your biometric data or details like numbers, expiration, or issue dates of your ID.

Visibility and removal: Once verified, a badge may appear on your profile, and LinkedIn may show the country that issued your ID. You can remove the verification at any time in Settings.

How to verify your identity with Persona:

  • If the name on your ID matches your LinkedIn profile, your verification will be visible.
  • Your actual ID information won’t be displayed, but LinkedIn may show the country that issued your ID.
  • You’ll be redirected to Persona’s verification process through the LinkedIn app. Steps include:
  1. Agreeing to Persona’s terms and privacy policy.
  2. Taking a photo of your ID.
  3. Scanning the NFC chip.
  4. Taking a selfie.
  5. Sharing the verification with LinkedIn.

To start the process, go to “Resources” on your LinkedIn profile, select “About this profile,” and click “Verify now.”

And then let’s see the process.

The first screen of verification process.

You need an NFC-enabled identification

And the ID will display the following logo

When you choose a country, you will be presented the ID available in that country.

Agree, agree and continue.

You will scan you NFC enabled ID and it will be verified (Not showing my ID, haahaa)

Finally it finds the information your ID provided.

Next scanning the NFC, it was the chip in the ID (didn’t know it but now I do)

And start your engines

Ready, steady, go!

Found the chip and scanning

Completed.

And verifying it’s you, photo time.

Litte bit left and right for the camera and done!

Approve sharing your data.

Success!

And done.

On the LinkedIn web page you will see all is now done and you are superbly verified.

Closure

Excellent use case for Verified ID. I went through it so you know what it’s about. It will help LinkedIn to keep your Account safe with verifying who you are. I think you should use it, what you think?

Have a great day!
